This past weekend, 23rd 24th and 25th August 2024, the vibrant town of Dingle, Co. Kerry, hosted the Irish Coastal Rowing Championships 2024, bringing together rowing enthusiasts from across Ireland. As the proud sponsor and partner for this prestigious event, SNG played a vital role in making the championships a success.
History of the Irish Coastal Rowing Federation
The Irish Coastal Rowing Federation (ICRF) has evolved into the official governing body for coastal rowing in Ireland. Since 1992, the ICRF has organized the Irish Coastal Rowing Championships, growing it into one of the largest single-sport regattas in Ireland and Europe. With over 500 participants from 40 clubs and up to 3000 competitors, this event is a cornerstone of the Irish rowing community.
Highlights from a Memorable Weekend
A standout moment this year was the Seine boat races. These traditional boats, dating back to the 17th century, were a rare but thrilling highlight. Known for their unique design and historical significance, Seine boats were a spectacular sight, with teams of twelve oarsmen and a coxswain showcasing their skill and teamwork.
The men’s Seine boat race on Saturday and the women’s race on Sunday were particularly memorable despite tough weather conditions, capturing the essence of tradition and competition in their impressive performances.
A massive well done to all the competitors who showcased their incredible skills and dedication over the few days. Your hard work, perseverance, and sportsmanship truly shone through, making the Irish Coastal Rowing Championships 2024 a memorable and inspiring event. Every race was a testament to your commitment to the sport and your team spirit.
